In 1908, The New York Times and LeMatins, a French daily newspaper, arranged a road race from New York to Paris which left Times Square on February 12, 1908. Six cars began the race, with three finishing. The Thomas Flyer from the U.S. finished first, with Germany’s Protos second and Italy’s Zust finishing third. This year marks the 100th anniversary of this historic race around the world, and Curtis captures this significant event in a handcrafted commemorative fountain pen, The Great Race. The three winning autos are depicted on the barrel with key city destinations along the route carved in the cap and barrel with details of oil cans, goggles and gloves.Sterling Silver, 18kgold two tone nib . Close up views of the cap and barrel illustrate three of the major cities: London, Moscow & Paris, together with detailed carvings of the tree cars that completed the race: The USA’s Thomas Flyer (the winner in 169 days) , the Protos from Germany (2nd place) and the Brixia Zust from Italy in 3rd place. |

The Curtis Australia 'State of Israel' pen has been inspired by the ancient Jewish art of papercutting. These intricate designs were hung inside homes to protect those living there. The delicately worked cutting creates a contrast between the cut paper and it's background - the same effect can be seen in the pen with sterling silver overlaying the marbled blue resin. |

Wildlife Warriors Worldwide was established in 2002, initially by Steve and Terri Irwin, as a way to include and involve other caring people to support the protection of injured, threatened or endangered wildlife – from the individual animal to an entire species. Terri Irwin is the Patron of this now independent organisation which helps many important animal conservation projects under way around the world.
Curtis Australia wanted to create a visually exciting pen to draw attention to the work of the Wildlife Warriors, something that imaginatively captured the spirit of the animals themselves while being unique in design and craftsmanship.
The Wildlife Warrior pen is a specially created, hand crafted solid gold fountain pen that beautifully illustrates several endangered species surrounded by over 450 sparkling diamonds and sapphires. This valuable pen will only be created 5 times, and each will feature a different array of hand selected gems making each one a valuable collector’s item. The Wildlife Warrior Gold fountain pen features the endangered crocodile, koala and kangaroos of Australia, as well as endangered tigers and elephants. There will only be five pens made worldwide, the first has been auctioned and the entire proceeds will go to the Wildlife Warriors. A portion of the proceeds from subsequent pens will aslo benefit the Wildlife Warriors.
